Book finishing variants

Almost any finishing variant is possible for digitally printed books today. To work as economically as possible for you, however, we use standardized book finishing variants. Nevertheless, we provide some individual scope here as well.

These are the options:

  • Free choice of format between A6 and A3
  • Body text in b/w or 4-color
  • Various body text papers, e.g. laser wood-free white 80 g/m² or 90 g/m² 1.5-fold bulky chamois
  • Various cover paper types such as 250 g/m² pure white ColorCopy paper or 250 g/m² linen structure carton
  • Offset covers (in particular when pre-produced for economically priced subsequent reprints)
  • Various cover finish types, e.g. matte or shiny film lamination
  • Hot-melt side binding or thread stitching
  • Paperback or hardcover book finish

Special designs

  • Books bound in linen or leather with or without embossing
  • Dust jackets
  • Books with punched register
  • Gold blockings
  • Books with gilt edges

Data preparation

Basically, there are two types of data from which a book on demand can be produced:

You supply a print-ready file.

To produce a book without additional prepress costs, we accept PDF or Postscript files as well as documents from DTP applications such as QuarkXpress or Pagemaker. Other file formats are possible by agreement. For further information, please refer to our Data Preparation Guide (German only):

You supply a repro original.

We digitize your paper original and produce the book from the resulting data stock. Of course, we make the digital data available to you for subsequent reprints at low costs.

Production process

After you have decided in favor of a production variant and transmitted your data, you will receive a galley proof and a proof print of the cover right away. It takes an average of ten days following production print release for your books to be ready for shipment.

Shipment

You can ship your completed books directly via our logistics center. No matter whether you choose direct shipment to a single address or individual shipment using a distribution list with personalized letter and enclosed invoice, you can always be sure we select the most cost-effective shipment variant!
